The project to create an outstanding
Community Centre in the Village of
Kibblesworth, Gateshead reached
fruition in April 2001. The Millennium
Centre was funded by a number of
partners including the Millennium
Commission, Gateshead Council, European
Regional Development Fund, Northumbria
Water Environmental Trust, Great North
Forest project and the Countryside
Agency.
The project has accomplished its aim to
create a Village Centre for the 21st
century and beyond, serving the social,
educational, recreational and cultural
needs of an isolated, rural former
mining community. This was achieved as
a result of the repair, conservation
and sensitive enhancement of a
building (the original former school)
and site, that has, since 1875, been of
great significance both architecturally
and socially to the Village of
Kibblesworth.
Externally, provision includes a safe
toddler's play area, scented garden,
general recreation area, secure car
parking area and CCTV
security system.
The Centre was officially opened by Her
Royal Highness, The Princess Royal in
April 2002.
Kibblesworth Village Millennium Centre
has the following staffing
establishment:
*Full-time Area Youth and Community
Learning Worker
*Part-time Administration Worker
*Part-time Cleaner in charge
*947 hours part-time Youth and
Community Learning Workers per year
A locally - elected Management
Committee is responsible for the
Management of the Centre.
